The other day I was speaking to a friend about religion and it sparked an idea that I am unsure has been analysed in depth. By no means have I done any research on this topic before blurting it out but getting it written down will at least preserve my original idea before its sullied by fact, politics, or belief systems.
The story of Jonah and the whale came up in our conversation over if the bible is a book of truths or a book of parables to teach morality and my friend asked, with a half cocked attitude, do you believe the store of Jonah and the whale to be true. I paused and thought to myself for a second before answering. Jonah and the whale seems like a highly improbable event but scientifically could it be done or even replicated. Could there of been a creature large enough with a digestive system that would support human life even just for a short time? Could then a person live long enough with a supply of food and water to last a few days?
These questions obviously could only be properly answered if some work was done to understand if there are any known creatures that could of been along the evolutionary chain that would be able to support life. With this is mind I responded, Do you think its possible? The knee jerk reaction to this is a resounding no, but if you think about how little we truly know about our universe your viewpoint starts to change.
It is an undeniable fact that we have next to a zero understanding of our current universe and no tools to measure or prove our theories true, but for a second lets adopt that there could be an infinite continuum of parallel universes. In this theoretical space it could also be possible that we travel across these parallels without the ability to perceive it. For the sake of being clear this could be analogous to a book. The opening of the front cover is birth, each page represents a parallel universe changing ever so slightly from the last, as you read the book (live life) until the end of the book or death. The caveat being that their are an infinite amount of possibilities of words on each page given the book you pick up or life you are given.
So its time to ask myself the question again, given there is a possibility that I am a traveler traversing a universe where there are an infinite number of possibilities could there of been a creature and a man who played out the story of Jonah and the whale. However highly unlikely still possible I will just add it to my list of unknowns and keep traversing.
